Greeting Pet Parents,
As the season changed and everyone settled into their new routines we saw a short-lived lull at the clinic, but we are back to operating at maximum capacity for our small (but mighty) team! We’re still booking about one week in advance for non-urgent minor illness or injury appointments, two weeks for wellness and vaccination appointments and 3-4 weeks for dental procedures or elective surgeries (spays, neuters, etc). Please plan ahead for what you can, and we will handle urgent situations as they come!
The clinic is a high traffic area that sees both healthy and sick patients. Some sick patients do carry contagious diseases that can be spread in the environment. While we have stringent disinfectant policies at the clinic, that does not guarantee protection to unvaccinated pets. If you have an unvaccinated or partially vaccinated pet (particularly young puppies and kittens) please bring them to their appointment in a carrier or on a short leash and stick to the pathway (we cannot disinfect grassy areas on the property!). We also recommend keeping your pet away from high traffic areas such as dog parks or popular walking paths until they are fully vaccinated.
We recently put out a social media post to raise awareness about zinc phosphide, a rodenticide recently approved by the Sask Ministry of Agriculture. Zinc phosphide poses a significant risk to both pets (and owners) when ingested. For more information, check out this very informative article from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine below: https://wcvmtoday.usask.ca/articles/2023/08/public-needs-to-be-aware-of-risks-associated-with-newly-approved-rodenticide.php
In October, Waggin’ Wheelz will celebrate six years of serving Wynyard and the surrounding communities! Since 2017 we have doubled the size of our team, expanded our services to include digital dental and full body x-ray, offer full lab services and now offer our clients a more comfortable experience in our new clinic location! Coffee anyone??
October is also a special month because it’s Veterinary Technician Month! Throughout October we will be showcasing our favourite Registered Vet Techs, Jen and Makyla! They are invaluable here at the clinic and we couldn’t do life without them. If you’ve ever been to our clinic (or any other for that matter), chances are your great experience was due to one of these hardworking folks!
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for - FARM Cat Day! Our Feral Animal Reduction Movement (FARM) Program will take place on Tuesday, October 3rd. To register, please contact the clinic by phone at (306) 554-9663. A $50 non-refundable deposit will be required for each animal registered. To qualify for the program, the following criteria must be met:
- must not be a household pet
- must be at least 6 months of age and in good physical condition
- must not be nursing kittens
- priority will be given to clients in the Wynyard/Wadena/Foam Lake area
- To ensure this program is accessible to all, if you have previously participated in our F.A.R.M. Cat Program, you will be placed on a waiting list. This allows others the opportunity to take part in the program and allows us to affect change in new populations of cats.
That's all folks! Thanks for reading!
